Under Siege developer’s diary launch!

Posted by: CM   in PS3 Project

Welcome to the Seed Studios Developer’s Diary first entry, my name is César and I am the Community Manager. I’m here to talk to you about our latest project, Under Siege. The main idea of this diary is to reach our busy devs, speak with them about the game and bring you the latest information. We give you our first in-game screenshots from our Pre Alpha build.

Our Lead Designer also wrote some words for all visitors:

“Hi, my name is Bruno Ribeiro and I’m Lead Designer on Under Siege, a real time strategy game coming in 2009 exclusively to the PLAYSTATION©3. Under Siege features an original world, unique gameplay elements and a control scheme designed with a console controller in mind. We are also working on implementing a large number of multiplayer and community features with special emphasis on user generated content.
In the coming months we will share with you info on many of these features, as well as the work involved in creating them. Feel free to comment and give feedback along the way.”

Eventually if you have any questions don’t hesitate to post them in our comments, I’ll try to reach our developers to get you some answers!

Hope to see you soon with some more details.

Cheers!

This is a Playstation 3 exclusive not a PSN exclusive. I think they would have mentioned it if it was. Anyway, it looks really nice, hopefully it will play well too. And it’s also nice to a RTS on the PS3, makes this years’ PS3 lineup a little more diverse:)

There is base building involved right? I have no interest in an RTS where all you do is move around army units, but you can’t build up a base and build new army units.

But if you can build a base, gather resources and use that base to create units like Starcraft, then I’m sold. It would be a day one purchase for me.

I hope you’re planning on supporting USB keyboard/mouse or else you’ll be following a history of failed games whose developers claimed they had discovered the secret to controlling RTS games with a gamepad.

I always wanted to see the use of a PSP conectivity with PS3 for RPG games or sand box games. It would be great to be playing a open world game of some sort and instead of say… pressing the select button to open a map. You could have the PS3 stream the map directly to the PSP. Or do you guys think that would be arkward? The PSP could work as a side mini-map?

With RTS you could use the PSP as a type of hotkey like you would on a PC. Or on the game on PS3 you can control the units. On the PSP, that could be the build menu?

I don’t know, just trying to come up with some ideas.
SOny did say that there would be plenty of PS3 to PSP conectivity, but we haven’t seen it yet.

I’m really happy to see these screen shots being as well put together as they are for a pre-alpha.

I don’t understand why people are saying “most people have a 50inch wide screen HD tv so split screen co-op would work fine” If you look at what “most people” have, it probably isn’t that, and you don’t put into a game a design that will limit the amount of players by as much as that would. I would love to see a split-screen co-op, but in reality, how do you think that would look on a 30” or smaller tv?

As for the keyboard/mouse support, I’d say it would be great to support it, but not demand it. Since this isn’t a retail game, you cant expect any player purchasing it will go pick up a extra keyboard/mouse for a downloadable game. Most people don’t have an extra keyboard and mouse lying around, let alone ones with long enough cords or wirelessly compatible.

As a fellow Portuguese, I fully support you guys! Go and make something everyone of us can be proud of! And then port it to the Xbox 360 so you can make more money and I can buy it! The 360 also has a very strong Portuguese community, even though it has some more RTS games, I’m sure it would be worthwhile.

    Cheers!

I think the PS3 needs a first RTS game that supports a keyboard and mouse setup. I hope you guys are up for that challenge. ^^

Well… I’ll confess I don’t like RTS games, but it’s good to see a portuguese developer trying to make a game. Despite the fact that I don’t like the genre (meaning I’ll hardly play it, only if the chance is provided), I hope it turns out successful…

Even though I believe it’d be more successful on the 360, or PC…

These screenshots look alright for a pre-alpha. Still needs lots of polish to make it along the good titles of PS3. I was a bit disappointed with the setting of the game. It looks too ordinary. The thing that interests me most is the content sharing among users. For now I guess it’s the most announced unique feature of the game. Anyway, good work!
